| A new camera for the field trips |

For India in 2006, we took the new Canon XL2, superseding the faithful but ageing XL1. The lens has a new feel and greatly improved zooming quality and power. We use it together with the XM1, which has so many of the same features in a more compressed form. Heavier than the XL1, and still using MiniDV tape, the new camera has a few problems when it comes to colour rendering. Those who remember Kodachrome may have cause for complaint. But there are many compensating advantages; speed, clarity and ease of operation.
Has anyone else had any experience of it? Like how amazingly heavy it feels after a few hours chasing butterflies in the heat? |
