1996 50 minutes DVD (region-free) A delight to watch, and a fascinating insight into the diversity of the marvellous butterflies of Southern Texas - Sir David Attenborough Because of its location in the extreme south of Texas the Lower Rio Grande Valley is often called a “A Naturalist’s Dream”. Like southern Florida it lies at the extreme northern edge of the Neotropical Region. That means that many butterflies that are found in Peru, Brazil or even Argentina can be seen there, with many others which are native to Central America. Shot in October when the Valley’s Neotropical and Nearctic butterfly populations are at their height, the film shows nearly a quarter of its 303 recorded species. |
