Butterflies in close-up; in the Valley of the Lower Rio Grande video coverThe Lower Rio Grande Valley in southern Texas – the “Valley” as it’s known locally - deserves to be called one of the natural wonders of the United States.

Like southern Florida, it lies at the extreme northern edge of the Neotropical Region. As a result, in the fall, it boasts an unequalled combination of late summer temperate zone butterflies that belong to the Nearctic Region, and Neotropical ones ranging north from Central and South America.

Nearly a third of the Valley’s 303 recorded species are seen on the film.
